Meet The Team

The church is led by an experienced Church Council team who provide both spiritual oversight and practical care for the work of the church.

The team meets once a month and is chaired by Pastor Dave.

Dave Landers

Pastor

Pastor Dave became a Christian in his late teens and was involved in outreach work in university where he met his wife Carol. He draws on extensive church leadership experience, over 30 years of married life, and a business background in management consultancy largely within the water and chemical industry.

David Halls

Treasurer

David has been a member of the church for 40 years and is now enjoying his third stint as a deacon and serving as the church Treasurer. He has been married to Linda since 1975 and they have a son and daughter who are both married. For 45 years he worked as an accountant until retiring in 2017 and now has a new “career” helping with his grandson’s childcare. His other interests include gardening, meeting with friends and supporting a local Suffolk football team.

Helen Tucker

Secretary

Helen came to know Jesus as her Lord and Saviour just before her 19th birthday. She trained as a teacher and worked in a local school before ministering with a Christian group in a country in Asia for six years. She currently works as a History teacher in Colchester.

At church she is involved with the children’s work and the worship team. She has a heart for prayer and for encouraging people in their walk with the Lord.

Elise Mo

Elise became a Christian while she was still in primary school and began attending church during her secondary school years. Since then, church life has always been an important part of her journey of faith. Over the years, she has served in various roles including worship leading, Sunday’s school teaching, church deacon, and discipleship mentoring.

In 2021, Elise moved from Hong Kong to Colchester with her husband and daughter. She began attending Abbeygate Church in 2022 and became a church member in 2024. She is currently part of the Sunday’s school teaching and the music ministry team, and has recently been elected to serve as a church deacon.

John Collett

John has been a member of the church for six years since returning to the UK after a career in Africa, Asia and Central America in safe drinking water and sanitation for rural communities. His last full-time position before retiring was with a Christian faith-based international organisation based in Narobi.

He became a Christian in his sixties. He has been a regular member of the Courtyard Presence Team since the initiative started on Good Friday 2019 and is an elected deacon.
