Our church is rooted in praise and worship. We started out as a group of Christians making music under the name of the Gospel Band in the early 1900s. From there it grew.

The church became affiliated with the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) in 1960 and became Colchester Evangelical Church. But as the times changed, and the town grew, the name was changed to Abbeyfield Community Church to more clearly reflect the values and mission of the church.
In 2018, Pastor Dave joined the church with his wife Carol. They have been married for more than 30 years and have two grown-up children. Pastor Dave believes wholeheartedly in the importance of aligning ourselves with God’s word and His plan for our lives, in order to bear fruit. Under his leadership we continue to see fresh fruit in our ministries new and old, blessing many locally as well as our international connections. We recognise the importance of being led by The Holy Spirit and covering all we do in prayer.
Abbeygate Church has become somewhere for everyone. The legacy of the Gospel Band lives on in our love to worship and pray together. With God, we are building a community of people who go on loving and serving God and one another. Feel free to get in touch to find out more.
